A brief history of jewelry boxes

Jewelry has been worn by humans since the Stone Age, thus, jewelry boxes are used after the jewelry. So, the history of the jewelry box dates back centuries. Throughout the ages, jewelry boxes have been designed and crafted by skilled craftsmen. Mass production fostered by the Industrial Revolution reduced the prices and made jewelry boxes an affordable commodity for the masses. Hence, everyone started purchasing jewelry boxes.
Jewelry Boxes were only purchased by the super rich before the Industrial Revolution because no other than the rich could afford to commission expert craftsmen to generate such items. The lower classes would not use such frivolous methods of storage.
Since then even the middle class population could purchase jewelry boxes. This happened due to the reduction in cost enabled by mass production. In the beginning of or in the first quarter of the 1800s, there was an overwhelming mass production of jewelry boxes. In this period of time, gold and silver boxes were very common. Silver-plated boxes are considered as antique jewelry boxes and are very rare. Besides, Jewel boxes among this period were available in all sizes, from the smallest ring box to handkerchief and even glove sized boxes. The bottom parts of these boxes were as beautiful as the top design.
Today, almost everyone can afford a jewelry box. Now, jewelry boxes are of different types and materials, they are made of wood, carved stone, or cast metal. They may sit on a dresser or bureau or stand alone in the case of the jewelry armoire, which resembles a small cabinet on legs. But some of the older Jewelry Boxes became very rare though some of them have been inherited within families and passed on to subsequent generations.
